Big news this week - both Year 6 & 5 have all been flexing our minds by taking part in the Primary Maths Challenge!
Mr Wildman said that results and certificates will follow in the coming weeks. In Maths lessons, we have also been looking at the Jumping Frogs puzzle and the Tower of Hanoi (aka Tower of Annoy!) along with some revision on Angles and a mini-exploration of the Binary Number System. In English this week we have enjoyed exploring A Christmas Carol further; we have debated the importance of Christmas (from Scrooge's perspective...), and looked at Scrooge's changing attitude as he looks into his past. We also did a SPAG escape room in groups - revising the grammar topics we have covered in Years 5 and 6 to unlock the door!
In Latin, we completed a translation about the strange story of many writing tablets being burned at Vindolanda before the family relocated to York. Happily, they didn’t burn very well, so several can be seen, albeit slightly scorched, in the British Museum! In Geography, we have been learning about the lives of children in different provinces of China, and summarising what we have learnt so far into a knowledge organiser (which is a really useful study tool). We will be adding to our organiser next week. In History, we have been exploring artefact images from Ancient Shang and using our inference skills to discern facts about what life must have been like.
In Drama this week, we started recording our radio plays using our special 'radio room' here at Willington, complete with sound board and mics! We enjoyed having the opportunity to work with this technology and Ms Wilkinson and Ms Fraser said we did a sterling job of simultaneously operating the sound effects and delivering the dialogue - not an easy task! Finally, this week in Science, we reviewed the topic of Electrical Circuits, reinforcing our knowledge and understanding before moving on to the next topic.
Have a great weekend!
