Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Another fun-filled week in Year 3! The children have been busy exploring a wide variety of subjects and have made an excellent start to the term. In Maths, we continued our work on place value, using the “crocodile mouth” to compare numbers and building confidence in understanding how numbers relate to one another. English lessons have taken us back to Ancient Greece as we studied the story of The Trojan Horse, breaking it down into eight clear steps and creating story maps in pairs, which really brought the tale to life. This linked beautifully with our History learning, where we began to explore BC and AD on a timeline and compared the very different ways of life in Athens and Sparta, sparking some thoughtful discussions about which city-state might have been the better place to live. In Science, we started our unit on life processes, considering what makes something alive and identifying the characteristics all living things share.
Drama brought the whole year group together as we explored facial expressions and played games that encouraged creativity and teamwork, with lots of laughter along the way. We also had our very first Classics lesson, where the children were fascinated to learn about Hadrian’s Wall and its role in Roman Britain, before rounding off the week with an exciting first whole-class visit to the Lego Room, which was enjoyed by everyone. It has been a wonderfully busy week packed with curiosity, imagination and energy, and although the term has only just begun, Year 3 are already showing fantastic enthusiasm for their learning and a real eagerness for what lies ahead.
Have a super weekend!
