Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
We have had a wonderful first full week in Reception, full of learning, exploring and plenty of fun! The children have begun their Black Cat single sounds and were introduced to ‘s,’ ‘a,’ and ‘t.’ They enjoyed spotting words beginning with these sounds and have even started learning how to form their letters using pre-cursive handwriting. We also discovered that when we put the letters together, they can make words – we were very proud to read our first ones, ‘at’ and ‘sat’!
In Maths, we set off on our Number Adventures with ‘Zero the Hero’ and number 1. The children enjoyed counting, forming their numbers, and exploring the idea of ‘nothing’ with Zero, which sparked some brilliant conversations. The children have also practised their cutting skills when we learnt about circles and squares to recreate Kandinsky's circles and squares painting.
Creativity has been flowing all week, from apple printing to match our ‘a’ sound, to using different touchy-feely materials to decorate our ‘t’ and ‘s’ letters. The children loved getting messy and imaginative while practising their sounds through art.
To end the week on a high, we had our very first visit to the exciting new Lego room on Friday. The children were thrilled to explore, build, and create together, showing wonderful teamwork and imagination.
It has been a fantastic start, and we are excited for the weeks ahead!
We wish you and all the children a restful weekend.
