Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Welcome to our Week 5 newsletter (only one more week to go until half term!).
This week in Maths, we have been learning more about percentages, their relationship with fractions and how to find a percentage of an amount. In French with Madame Veloso, we’ve been talking about our height and personality, describing ourselves and others in full sentences. We’ve also been working more on using the verb être (to be) in the present tense and understanding how adjectives change in their masculine and feminine forms, ensuring correct adjective agreement with nouns.
In Science, we continued our practical investigations into the properties of materials. We made sure our write-ups were accurate, with a particular focus on understanding the difference between observation and conclusion. In Computing, we created line graphs and spent time exploring the ‘customise’ options in Google Sheets to improve the formatting of our graphs. In Latin we continued creating our fact files about 4 key roles in the Roman army: centurion, standard bearer, flag bearer and horn player. Those who finished had the chance to look for the Latin names of Roman weapons on a wordsearch.
This week in English we have been introduced to a new character in Street Child called 'Grimy Nick' and have explored how his character is described using 'show, don't tell'. We have also been looking at complex expanded noun phrases using adverbial or prepositional phrases. In Humanities, we were really excited to finally get onto planning our end of term group project, to design a Victorian themed board game! We are really looking forward to showcasing our knowledge and understanding of this period through our games and cannot wait to make them next week!
Finally, in Drama this week, we started to prepare our musical number 'Food Glorious Food' from Oliver. Miss Wilkinson said that it is, 'beginning to take shape nicely already, with a fantastic effort from all in learning lyrics and choreography.'
Have a great weekend.
