Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
This week's highlight was our trip to the Science Museum. There is so much to see, so many buttons to press! We were looking at forces and loved attending a workshop where Phil the stunt frog was propelled and pulled and was unable to defy gravity. The explainer performed the cool trick of snatching out a tablecloth without disturbing the tea set on the table but we weren't allowed to have a go. We toured most of the galleries, filling in our forces questionnaire and discovering wonders on every floor. Back at school we started our new topic on rocks and looked at the difference between man made and natural rocks. In English we wrote playscripts from a scene in The Twits and performed them with huge gusto. We have begun our new book and tried to guess the title from the intriguing front cover. Now we know we're about to venture "Into the Forest." We moved on from Area and Perimeter to Time in Maths. Still thinking about weather, we studied weather forecasts and what sort of weather high and low pressure may bring. This weekend will see us preparing to present our own forecasts. Our work on the Jewish religion brought us to Hanukkah and we heard the story of the tiny quantity of oil miraculously lasting 8 days, represented by the Menorah. In PSHE we discussed the world of work, wondering what careers we might follow (quite a lot of sport was involved!) and which skills and qualities would be needed for those jobs. We looked at Roman food and drew feasting Romans enjoying stuffed dormice and whole peacocks.
Something to try at home?
Have a lovely weekend.
