Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
After a beautifully sunny week - complete with House Rugby, a Money workshop and a Spring concert that lifted our spirits as much as the sunshine - it’s hard to believe we are just one week away from the Easter holidays!
In English, have researched and planned, this week we have been writing our newspaper article looking at the start of World War 2 and evacuation (using the formatting skills for a newspaper article we learnt last in Computing). We have also continued reading our class text 'Goodnight Mister Tom' and reflecting on the mutually positive relationship between Will and Mister Tom. In Maths, we have been investigating spirals and discovering how they are linked to triangles, prime numbers, and the Fibonacci Sequence. We’ve also explored tessellations, laying the groundwork to create our own mathematically inspired artwork ready for Arts Week.
In Science, we began preparing for our biology topic by watching What is Life?, a thought-provoking video by Nobel Prize winner Sir Paul Nurse. This led us to explore cells - the smallest unit of life and the building blocks of all living organisms. In Humanities, we have been exploring the question “What has the Renaissance ever done for us?”, researching and reflecting to prepare for sharing our ideas after Easter. In Geography, we have been learning about coastal management and challenging ourselves to put our knowledge of coastal erosion into action by saving communities in the game Planet Planners.
Finally, we took part in a fantastic money workshop, where we learnt where money comes from, as well as essential skills like budgeting, saving, and the link between money and emotional well-being. This session was particularly beneficial as we prepare for secondary school, helping us develop independence and a strong understanding of money in real-life situations!
Have a great weekend!
