Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
After a beautifully sunny week - complete with an epic hike across the Surrey Hills and a Spring concert that lifted our spirits as much as the sunshine - it’s hard to believe we are just one week away from the Easter holidays!
In English this week, we have finished our poetry topic, reading the poems we wrote, stepping into the memory of the Covid lockdown, wherever we were in the world. We also reflected on the half term and the wonderful progress we have made and all we have learnt about World War 2, as well as set a focus for ourselves for next term. In Maths, we have been exploring Mode, Median, Mean, and Range. Our handy reminders: Mode = Most, Median = Middle, and Mean = Chainsaw (because it chops all the numbers up before averaging them!).
In Science, we explored another method for separating mixtures: distillation. Although this is not something we can investigate practically in our science lab, we watched several video clips, discussed how it works, and then drew a detailed diagram of the apparatus used in simple distillation. In Computing, we are consolidating our knowledge of simple formulas in Google Sheets and can now calculate how many days are left until our birthday!
In Latin this week we finished our wonderful retellings of the myth of Midas, then learnt some Easter vocabulary in Latin and made Easter cards. Felix Pascha! In Humanities, we’ve been learning about Eastern Africa, focusing especially on Tanzania. In History, we’ve been researching the remarkable life of Harriet Tubman and delving into the abolitionist movement.
Finally, we took part in a fantastic money workshop, where we learnt about where money comes from, as well as essential skills like budgeting, saving, and the link between money and emotional well-being. This session helped consolidate our learning from the autumn term, when money was our topic, and gave us a great foundation for understanding money management in real life!
Have a lovely weekend,
