This week saw the first rehearsals for our new Chamber Choirs as well as the continuation of our Woodwind Ensemble, Music Theory, Music Scholarship and Sparrows Choir clubs. Instrumental lessons have also been underway with our excellent team of tutors. If any student is keen to learn an instrument at school, all the details are on the Music website (link below). It is delightful to see so many keen young musicians developing their skills and knowledge outside of the classroom as well as within!
Meanwhile, Nursery are exploring starting/stopping and loud/quiet sounds with voices and instruments. Year 1 are meeting the Strings family as well as commencing the Rhythm challenge - learning to read and perform notated rhythm patterns. Year 2 are developing their improvisation and call & response techniques. Year 3 are exploring 'Painting with Sound' and Year 4 investigating patterns in music with rhythmic ostinatos. The Gamelan music of Indonesia provides inspiration for Year 5's practical music making and Year 6 have taken an historical approach to their musical studies, starting their topic on the History of Western Music with Medieval plainchant on the menu!
