The children have settled into Year 3 beautifully and engaging with their classwork enthusiastically. In Maths we have been ordering and comparing numbers and had a go at our first multiplication race, an inspiration to learn our tables and try for a better score each week. It has been exciting to get stuck into our new topics. We've started looking at Ancient Greece in both History and English, kicking off by making a timeline to help us to appreciate how long ago this period was, finding Greece on a map and comparing the lot of Athenians and Spartans. We read the grisly myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and are planning how we can retell the story in pictures and our own words, creating a story map to start us off. We began our Science work by considering what different types of scientists study and are thinking about life processes. We sorted out the difference between living things, dead ones and those that have never been alive. This year we will be introduced to classical studies and learn a little Latin and we discussed who spoke Latin, why the Romans invaded Britain and what it would be like to have lived by Hadrian's Wall. Next week we will meet the family from that area who will help us to learn the language. We learnt the French words for France and its neighbours and looked at modes of transport to get there.
It was lovely to meet many of you at the curriculum evening and we're looking forward to a tremendous year with your wonderful children!
