Diversity is our Superpower!
We began the week with an assembly focusing on diversity. This followed a nationwide online assembly held the previous week to welcome children back for the autumn term. Our discussion on tolerance and respect was particularly poignant, reflecting on the events of the riots over the summer holidays. At Willington, we take immense pride in our diverse community. The assembly underscored this with a staff memory game that revealed we have 36 different nationalities represented within our school – a testament to our belief that diversity is indeed our superpower. The rich cultural differences among us create an environment where tolerance and respect are woven into the fabric of our daily lives.
Thank you to everyone who attended our information evenings at Willington last week. I hope you found them to be informative. I addressed the issue of safe parking during drop-off and pick-up times in my opening speech, and I find it crucial to reiterate this concern. It's disheartening to see that a few individuals still choose to park on the double yellow lines at corners, which seriously jeopardise the safety of our children. I earnestly request your cooperation to avert any potential accidents by refraining from such practices.
Furthermore, I wish to remind everyone that Compton Road will be closed next week, which is likely to increase traffic congestion. If feasible, please explore alternatives to driving your car. Car-sharing is a wonderful arrangement that could significantly diminish the traffic flow in and out of Alwyne Road. Your understanding and support in this regard are much appreciated.
We have received a small number of exciting proposals for parent-led assemblies, which I am confident the children will thoroughly enjoy. If you have an interesting career or hobby you believe could inspire the children, I encourage you to get in touch, and we can schedule a visit.
I trust by now you have downloaded the Willington app—a valuable resource for accessing school information and navigating through our various platforms.
