THINK - Brainstorm - can you think of any rivers, lakes, or beaches in your local area?
Choose some activities from below to help you think more about the water near you.
DAY 1 CHALLENGE / WERO
Watch the Young Ocean Explorers video 'Crazy Plastic Journey'
Go outside and pick up at least 1 piece of plastic or other rubbish - start to make a difference for YOUR community.
CHOOSE ONE OR MORE OF THESE ACTIVITIES:
WHAT LIVES IN THE WATER?
WATCH - Look at this video of the moana where Riley lives - the Hauraki Gulf/Tikapa Moana. Look at all the different creatures that live there!
THINK - what do you know that lives in the water? Make a list / draw pictures.
HOW PEOPLE USE THE WATER - TRANSPORT
THINK - How can we get across the water? Brainstorm ways of going on the water eg: waka, swim, motor boat, kayak, surfboard
DO - Make a tally chart of how many children in your class have been on the water in different ways (you will need to copy/print this chart).
DRAW a picture of you having fun in, on, or near the water.
HOW PEOPLE USE THE WATER - FOOD / KAI
SING OR LISTEN - kina kina song
THINK AND DISCUSS - Kai from the water - what food do we have that comes from the sea, river, or lake? Think about some of the things that were in the song, and seafood you might catch, or buy at the fish and chip shop. Are there any plants from the sea that we use as food? Make a list.
