Every student is assigned to a crew, and this assignment lasts for the duration of the school year.
A student's homeroom is their crew; the students in their homeroom are their fellow crew members and their homeroom teacher is their crew leader. Some crews have co-leaders.
Crew sizes are around 15 students.
While homeroom meets daily from 8:10 - 8:20, scheduled crew lesson time occurs approximately every other week on Wednesday mornings for 40 minutes, (8:20 - 8:50).
Crew time provides structured routines, activities, and lessons supporting skill development related to students' social and emotional learning.
Students participate in team-building activities to develop peer-peer and student-teacher relationships, improve communication skills, and engage in creative problem-solving.
Students receive explicit SEL instruction across five competency areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
