In today’s competitive society, continuing your education beyond high school is extremely important. Students have many choices of vocational schools, community colleges and four-year colleges and universities to choose from. However; once you have decided on the type of school that best suits your needs, what will you choose to MAJOR in once you get there?
In total, about 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in CTE courses across the nation. CTE prepares these learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies as well as learn how core school subjects like math, science, etc are used in real-life situations. At its core, the mission of CTE is to prepare students for success in college and careers by helping them develop the skills, technical knowledge, academic rigor and real-world experience for high-skill, high-demand and highly successful careers.
Many programs offer you the opportunity to earn nationally recognized certifications which you can use to get a job, that will help you pay for college or start off your career straight out of high school.
There are multiple program areas available here at Enloe where students can sign up to take multiple courses in each area to explore. Those program areas include:
Business and Information Technology
Family and Consumer Science

The NC Department of Public Instruction has an articulation agreement with the NC Community College System that states if a student is proficient in selected CTE courses in high school, that student can receive college credit for that selected course at any North Carolina Community College.
To receive articulated credit, students must enroll at the community college within two (2) years of their high school graduation date and while taking the course in high school meet the following criteria:
Final grade of B or higher in the course, and;
A score of 93, or higher, on the CTE Post Assessment (Final Exam)
Career Clusters represent a broad grouping of occupations and industries based on common knowledge and a plan of study. As a tool, Career Clusters blend rigorous academic and technical prep, provides career planning, offers options for students to experience all aspects of an industry and facilitates and assists students with transitions.
Here at Enloe High School, we are fortunate enough to offer 12 out of the 16 nationally recognized career clusters. Within each cluster, there are cluster “pathways” that correspond to a collection of courses and training opportunities to prepare you for a given career. The high school graduation rate for CTE concentrators is about 90% which is 15 percentage points higher than the national average. Currently, in the 2020-2021 school year, federal law surrounding the Perkins V (which funds CTE programs) has changed the dynamic of CTE Concentrators. Now students will only have to earn 2 or 3 credits within a Career Cluster in order to become a CTE Concentrator.
