Track Description: The pathway focuses on providing a general overview of professions in healthcare, how to obtain those professions and gives a great knowledge base of the body to continue to build on throughout your education. Students can obtain CPR, STOP the Bleed, and OSHA certification, Blood Borne Pathogen training, and learn First Aid techniques. Most classes in this pathway use a combination of lecture/power point and worksheets to deliver content. Occasionally group work or individual projects are assigned.
After Completing this Track: Students should be ready to pursue a post-secondary degree in a health science field OR take college credit in high school to become a certified nursing assistant or certified pharmacy technician and go directly to work in that field after high school graduation.
Credentials Offered: CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens through American Heart Association
Careers Correlating: Any career in the health science field - CNA, medical assisting, health informatics specialist, MD, PA, nurse, dentist, etc.
HB115X0 H. Biomedical Technology – This course challenges students to investigate current trends in health care. Topics include ethics, forensic medicine, infectious diseases, organ transplants, cell biology and cancer, and biomedical research.
*10-12 Grade Students
*Registration priority is given to Health Science Academy students.
HH325X0 H. Pharmacy Technician – Students interested in becoming pharmacy techs should take this class as topics discussed include medications, medical math conversations, history and job responsibilities of technicians. There are a variety of lab activities and projects completed during class. Students are offered a chance to take the Pharmacy Technician Board Exam and can obtain a job as a technician with this certification.
