Track Description: Understanding design and communication is a demanded skill needed in industry, with a graphic designer as a leading job choice in the Triangle area. In Visual Design 1, students learn Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and have an opportunity to earn ACA Certification. Progressing into Advertising and Design, students explore a variety of design projects focused on understanding design principles, design thinking, and critique while developing portfolios. In Adobe Visual 2, students focus on learning InDesign and layout. All classes are focused on hands-on projects, group work, and critique, with small amounts of lecture.
(If planning to take all 3 courses, it is suggested to take Visual 1 – Ad Design – Visual 2).
After Completing this Track: Students should have a comprehensive design portfolio, have a good understanding of design thinking, and understand the importance of clear communication. They will have technical competency in multiple Adobe Programs. Attendance is directly correlated with success.
Credentials Offered: ACA Illustrator and Photoshop in Visual 1. ACA InDesign in Visual 2
Careers Correlating: Designer (industrial, graphic, architect, web, etc.), project manager, marketing, UX designer, art director, creative director, social media director, etc.
10312X0AF/AS Yearbook 1 & 10325X0DF/DS H. Yearbook 2 – Throughout these courses, students will learn Adobe InDesign and Photoshop while creating the yearbook. They will learn the manual settings of a camera while learning principles of photography. Writing is reinforced in stories and captions. Students must complete work outside of class and attend events happening at the school. Time management skills are directly relational to success in this class. Though there is not an official pre-req, course registration is limited and priority is given to students that have taken and been successful in Adobe Visual Design 1.
