Week 7: March 9-13
Monday: NO SCHOOL! Teacher Workday
Tuesday: As a class, we reviewed the contrasting economic systems that we discussed on Friday, focusing particularly on the differences of capitalism & communism. Students then worked on the Causes of the Russian Revolution DBQ and answered the questions that accompany each of the readings.
HW: World War One End of Unit Assessment is TOMORROW! All students received a WW1 Study Guide last week. I also offered an additional copy today in case they lost theirs. Study Guide is also posted for students in Google Classroom.
Wednesday: Students took the World War One End of Unit Assessment. After finishing, students completed a Word Search as a brain break for candy.
HW: Get some good rest - WCPSS Performance Assessment for all 7th Graders is tomorrow bright & early!
Thursday: Students took the WCPSS Performance Assessment in the morning. For remaining classes, we worked on uploading an artifact for their Digital Portfolio for Quarter 3.
HW: None!
Friday: We began Unit 8: Interwar Period with an overview video of Life in the 1920s and the 3-2-1 protocol. Students then read the Consumerist Economy article and answered the questions that followed. Interwar & World War II Vocabulary was ASSIGNED - due NEXT FRIDAY!
HW: Unit Vocabulary is due next Friday!
Week 6: March 2-6
Monday: Students took guided notes on Trench Warfare. We discussed the layered trench system and viewed a video on life in the trenches.
HW: None!
Tuesday: As a class, we discussed America's entry into World War One with the guided notes. Students analyzed Wilson's Fourteen Points and then worked on the Lusitania Article and Reading Questions.
HW: Finish the Lusitania Reading Questions.
Wednesday: Students worked on decoding the Zimmermann Note. We then took guided notes on the Flawed Peace of WW1. Students were given the Study Guide to prepare for the World War One Performance Task that will be next week.
HW: Begin working on your Study Guide!
Thursday: As a class, we simulated meeting at Versailles for the Treaty to end WW1. Students then completed the guided notes on the Treaty of Versailles, and we compared what students agreed upon to the actual treaty.
HW: Continue working on the Study Guide.
Friday: As a class, we finished up our discussion on the Treaty of Versailles from yesterday, with the Treaty of Versailles DBQ. We then reviewed the various economic systems, highlighting the differences between capitalism, communism, and socialism with the reading and chart. If time, we played the Economic Systems Game.
HW: Work on Study Guide! The Unit Performance Task will be on Wednesday. Enjoy your three day weekend!
Week 5: February 24-28
Monday: As a class, we reviewed the MAIN Causes of World War One. Students then worked on mapping World War One in Europe.
HW: Finish your WW1 Map if not done in class!
Tuesday: As a class, we viewed the video on the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Students then read an article about the Archduke and the Black Hand Society, before completing Reading Comprehension questions. We then reviewed the different types of propaganda with notes and practiced analyzing propaganda with a Gallery Walk if time allowed.
HW: Begin to review for Thursday's Mid-Unit QUIZ on the Causes of WW1.
Wednesday: Students completed the Gallery Walk from yesterday using the practice sheet. We then shifted to analyzing WW1 propaganda.
HW: Finish your WW1 Propaganda Analysis if not done!

Thursday: Students took the Mid-Unit Quiz on the Causes of World War One. With the remainder of the period, students researched the weapons of World War One and filled out the graphic organizer on the essential technological advancements in weaponry.
HW: Finish the Weapons graphic organizer if not done in class.
Friday: As a class, we discussed the Technology and Weapons of World War One that students researched yesterday. Students viewed the Trench Warfare Gallery Walk with a partner, analyzing quotes from those who fought in the trenches. We then took Guided Notes on Trench Warfare with the rest of class.

Week 4: February 18 - February 21
Monday: No School! President's Day
Tuesday: As a class, we reviewed Nationalism, that we had discussed before trackout. Students then worked with a partner to complete the Nationalism DBQ Stations. Students will have a graded exit ticket on Nationalism TOMORROW to start class.
HW: Review for Nationalism Exit Ticket tomorrow!
Wednesday: Students took the Nationalism Graded Exit Ticket. After they finished, students worked on their World War One Vocabulary, in which they came up with a definition in their own words, and added an image to help them remember the terms.
HW: Finish World War One Vocab if not done.
Thursday: Students analyzed the MAIN Causes Article and used the Fishbowl Graphic Organizer as notes on the causes of the War.
HW: Finish your Fishbowl Organizer based on the MAIN causes if not done in class.
Friday: SNOW DAY NO SCHOOL!
Week 3: January 21 - January 24
Monday: No School! Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Tuesday: Students began their work on the Imperialism Project. Students are allowed to work with one partner if they prefer, or on their own. Each group worked today on their Pro-Imperialism Poster. Students had to design a poster, and EXPLAIN via a paragraph: the colonizing country and the colonized country are named and an accurate explanation of how and why (social, political, or economic reasons) the colonizing country took control of the colonized country.
HW: Work on the Pro-Imperialism Poster as needed! Imperialism Project is due FRIDAY, January 24th.
Wednesday: Students continued their work on the Imperialism Project. Students worked with their partner to create their Anti-Imperialism Poster and to create their paragraph explanation with an adequate explanation why people in the colonized country would have been against the actions of the imperialistic nation. 2 specific examples are provided.
HW: Work on the Anti-Imperialism Poster as needed. Imperialism Project Posters are due FRIDAY, January 24th.
Thursday: Students were re-introduced to Nationalism, as a cause of World War I. Students first viewed a video introducing the idea of nationalism and how nations form their identity. Individually, students completed the reading in the One World textbook, pages 892-913, before answering the reading questions. If students finished early, they had a choice to either work on their Imperialism Project Posters if not done, or learn about either the unification of Germany or Italy.
HW: Imperialism Project Posters are due tomorrow, FRIDAY, January 24th.
Friday: Students submitted their Imperialism Projects. As a class, we briefly discussed nationalism, before students began their work on the Nationalism DBQ Stations.

Week 2: January 13 - January 17
Monday: As a class, we discussed the importance of the Suez Canal, answering the article questions. We then shifted our focus to imperialism in Asia, starting with India as the "crown jewel of the British Empire." After watching the introductory video, students read the Sepoy Mutiny article and answered the accompanying questions.
HW: Finish the "Sepoy Mutiny" article questions if not done in class.
Tuesday: We shifted our focus of Imperialism in Asia to China. Students viewed an introductory video on what is going on in China and the First Opium War. As a class, we read the Opium Wars article and students answered the questions with a partner. Students submitted a graded exit ticket to compare & contrast imperialism in Africa and Asia.
HW: Finish the "Opium Wars" article questions if not done in class.
Wednesday: We continued our analysis of Western imperialism in China. Students first read and analyzed the Open Door Policy. We then created a map with the various spheres of influence that infiltrated China. Finally, we looked at the Boxer Rebellion and the Chinese response & reactions to Western imperialism.
HW: Finish the "Chinese Reactions to Western Imperialism" article questions if not done in class. Begin to review for Friday's Imperialism QUIZ!
Thursday: Students took guided notes on the Meiji Restoration in Japan before analyzing the primary and secondary sources with the Impacts of the Meiji Restoration DBQ.
HW: Study for tomorrow's Imperialism QUIZ!
Friday: Students took the Imperialism QUIZ via Google Classroom. We then introduced the Imperialism Project. Students will have Tuesday and Wednesday of next week to complete the project.
HW: Finish the Meiji Restoration DBQ! This is a minor classwork grade. Have a great three day weekend!
Quarter 3, Week 1: January 6 - January 10
Monday: We continued the Imperialism Notes from Friday (we had stopped a little over half-way on Friday). With the remainder of the period, students began working on the Imperialism in Africa DBQ documents. We read the Background Essay together and I modeled one Document before students began analyzing and answering the questions for Documents A & B.
HW: Finish Documents A & B!
Tuesday: We continued our analysis of the Imperialism in Africa DBQ Documents. Students worked on the questions for Documents C & D. Upon completion, students wrote one paragraph that used evidence from the documents to explain what the motives were for imperialism in Africa.
HW: Read the Berlin Conference Reading and answer the analysis questions. We will start with this first thing tomorrow!
Wednesday: Students worked on the Berlin Conference Simulation, based off of last night's reading.
HW: None!
Thursday: Students analyzed the poem, White Man's Burden by Rudyard Kipling, before contrasting that to the response, The Black Man's Burden. Students answered questions on each of the poems. As a class, we discussed how science was used for racist purposes, including eugenics, natural selection, and Social Darwinism.
HW: Finish Who's Burden Activity if not done in class!
Friday: Students wrapped up the discussion of the imperialism of Africa. As a class we read about King Leopold's Imperialism in central Africa, the importance of the Suez Canal, and the British possession of Egypt.
HW: Finish the Egypt & Suez Canal Article & Questions
January 2 - January 3
Thursday: Students began Unit 7 with the Imperialism Vocabulary, using the political cartoons and matching definitions to the terms. As a class, we viewed the Flocabulary video, and students completed the Flocabulary Article Questions with any time remaining.
HW: Finish the Flocabulary Article if not done in class!
Any missing work is DUE tomorrow - the end of the QUARTER is tomorrow!
Friday: As a class, we reviewed their homework from yesterday, the Flocabulary Article. Students were then introduced to the concept of Imperialism. Students completed the guided questions (Notes for the day) as we went through the presentation.
