Week 5: August 26-28
Monday: Students continued their work on the Unit 1 One-Pager from Friday. Tomorrow will be the last day in class for students to work on the One-Pager.
HW: None! Please check in with your Warrior to see how they are progressing on their Unit 1 One-Pager.
Tuesday: Last day to work on the Unit 1 One-Pager in class. Students started their work on Unit 2: Exploration with the Exploration Vocabulary.
HW: Finish the Unit 1 One-Pager if not done in class! Unit 1 One-Pager is due Wednesday, August 28th. Complete the Exploration Vocabulary if not done in class.
All remaining days of this week can be found on the Unit 2 page.
Week 4: August 19-23
Monday: Students had our first "Call to ARMS" Circle meeting in their Core 2 and in Core 4 we held a whole team meeting.
HW: None!
Tuesday: Students partner read an article on Culture and then discussed the various aspects of culture. Students created a concept map that demonstrated their personal cultures.
HW: None!
Wednesday: Students played the Primary vs. Secondary Sources Kahoot! and then worked on the Nacirema Culture Questions that went along with the article.
HW: Finish the Nacirema Culture Questions if not done in class.
Thursday: Students discussed the Nacirema Culture activity from yesterday. Students began working on their "Social Studies One Pager" which is their Unit 1 Performance Task Assessment.
HW: Finish the One Pager Planning Document if not done in class. Students MUST be ready to begin their final draft in class tomorrow. Students are able to work on this in Ms. Holloway's RIDGE Time if necessary, as well as afternoon Warrior Time.
HW: None!
Friday: Students continued working on their Unit 1 Assessment, the Social Studies One Pager.
Week 3: July 22-26
Monday: Students completed a World Map activity, labeling the five oceans and seven continents. Students took notes, reviewing the 5 Themes of Geography. Students completed the "5 Themes of Me" assignment at end of presentation.
HW: Complete your 5 Themes of Me if not done in class!
Tuesday: Students reviewed the different political systems found in modern societies. In small groups, students created "Gummy Bear Governments" and created a Google Slide Presentation highlighting the different types of governments.
HW: None (:
Wednesday: Students completed their Types of Government Google Slides from yesterday. Students then read an iCivics article about different types of economies and monopolies as an introduction to Economics and completed the worksheet that went with it.
HW: Finish the "Government & the Economy" Worksheet.
Thursday: Students completed the "Pearl Exchange" Simulation as part of our study of Economics.
HW: None! Be prepared to take the Social Studies 7th Grade Pre-test tomorrow.
Friday: All students took the 7th Grade Social Studies Pre-test to gauge their prior knowledge. Students practiced their latitude and longitude with "Geography Battleship" and then reviewed their Primary and Secondary Sources with a Kahoot!

Week 2: July 15-19
Monday: Students set-up their Social Studies Binders and completed a Chalk Talk on various quotes about the importance of studying history.
HW: Core 1 students ONLY will finish the "Why Study History?" Doodle Notes
Tuesday: Students took Cornell Notes on Primary and Secondary Sources. Students then evaluated different sources via Google Classroom on "Identifying High Quality Sites".
HW: Finish the "Identifying High Quality Sites" assignment via Google Classroom. *Note: Core 4 will have time to finish "Why Study History?" Doodle Notes in RIDGE Time tomorrow.
Wednesday: Students completed five stations of their choice on Evaluating Primary Sources.
HW: "Identifying High Quality Sites" is DUE to Google Classroom tonight.
Thursday: In small groups, students completed a timeline of the Middle Ages to review from 6th grade to launch our course of study for our next Unit. Individually, students created a "Timeline of Me" assignment.
HW: Finish your "Timeline of Me" if not finished in class.
Friday: Students began our overview of geography as a social studies field. Students worked on creating a world map from memory, made inferences on their geography vocabulary, and created an "Autobiography Island Map" for themselves.
HW: Finish "Autobiography Island Map"! Have a great weekend!
