January 2-January 3
Thursday: Students had the entire period to continue their work on constructing their What Would Make You Care? Research Project Google Site. The target for today was that each student had their Pictures, Stories, Numbers, and home page all complete. All Works Cited should already be completed as well.
HW: Continue work on your website! These are DUE tomorrow. No exceptions as the quarter ends TOMORROW.
Friday: Students finished their websites. The goal was that everyone was done IN class. Students turned in their published site to the Google Form on Google Classroom, and did a self assessment of their work on the Reflection Sheet.
HW: All websites must be submitted to the Google Form by 11:59pm for grading. Have a great weekend!
Week 18: 12/16-12/20
Monday: Students had the entire period to work on their What Would Make You Care? Project Research. I checked in to make sure they were making adequate progress on their research and finding reliable sources.
HW: Continue to work on your sources!
Q2 Flipgrid Book Review is DUE FRIDAY!
Tuesday: We completed a research check-in to focus students on what they are missing. Students then had the remainder of the period to work on their research.
HW: Research, research, research! Make sure you have AT LEAST 5 sources, and have met the requirements for each of the aspects (facts, numbers, stories, pictures).
Q2 Flipgrid Book Review is DUE FRIDAY!
Wednesday: As a class, we had a mini lesson on paraphrasing, as students will not be allowed to copy and paste on their website. Everything must be properly cited and in their own words. We viewed two example sites so everyone could see what we are going for. We then spent the remainder of the period working on creating their Works Cited page, using MyBib. If time, we created their website using Google Site.

Thursday: As a class, we created their Google Site to use to share their research if we did not have time yesterday. Students had the rest of the period as an independent work day to work on building their website.

Week 17: 12/9-12/13
Monday: #1 Background Knowledge is DUE on Google Classroom today! Students read and annotated Paragraphs 8-15 of Cesar Chavez's Commonwealth Club Address. We then worked on Tasks 3-4 of the Chavez Stations on Google Classroom.
NOTE: Task 5 is the Mid-Unit Assessment for Module 2, Unit 2, this will be tomorrow, in class.
HW: Finish Tasks 1-4 if not done in class! These must be done before start of business, tomorrow.
Tuesday: Students took the Module 2 Unit 2 Mid-Unit Assessment, Station Task #5. With time remaining, students worked on their Second Quarter Book Review Assignment.
HW: Book Review is due Friday, December 20th!
Wednesday: Students began the Module 2 Unit 3 Research Project: What Would Make You Care? As a class, we introduced the project and the expectations, taking time to review the calendar moving forward. Students then set up the Google Folders that will house their Research for the Project.
HW: Work on your Book Review!
Thursday: Into to Research lesson in the Media Center with Mrs. Brennan. With time remaining, students began their research on modern working conditions.
HW: Continue your research from class today!
Friday: Research Day #1: Students had the class period to compile research on their "What Would Make You Care" research project.
HW: Work on your research over the weekend! Be ready to hit the research hard on Monday.
Week 16: 12/2-12/6
Monday: As a class, we reviewed the expectations for the Who is Lyddie? Art portion of the project that we began before break. Students had the remainder of the period to finish this, and to work on any missing work.

Tuesday: Students were introduced to the end of Module 2 Unit 1 Writing Task, the Dear Abby letter. Students had the class period to collect their evidence to fill out their graphic organizer to determine what their response to Lyddie's letter will be, on if she should or should not sign the petition.
HW: Finish filling out both sides of the Dear Abby graphic organizer if not done in class.

Wednesday: Students had the entire class period to work on crafting their Dear Abby letter. Students just had to type what they came up with from yesterday on their graphic organizer into letter formatting, using the template provided.
HW: Finish typing your Dear Abby letter if not done in class and submit via Google Classroom. Letter is due to GCR by the beginning of class tomorrow!

Thursday: Students turned in their Dear Abby letter. We began Module 2, Unit 2, which focuses on Cesar Chavez. Students completed the Chavez Background Knowledge hyperdoc via Google Classroom. This is due MONDAY.

Friday: Students began the Cesar Chavez Speech Station Tasks. Today's goal was to finish station tasks #1 and #2 in Google Classroom.

HW: Finish Tasks 1 & 2. Bring your Independent Reading novel to class tomorrow! Everyone MUST have an IR novel.

Saturday: Students continued their station work from yesterday, finishing Tasks #1 & #2 if not done. Students had the rest of class to read their Independent Reading novel. If you need suggestions, check out the Module 2 Supplemental List here. The Independent Reading Book Review Assignment is due in TWO WEEKS!
HW: Read for JOY this short weekend! Students need to be progressing on their IR novel outside of class.

Week 15: 11/25 & 11/26
Monday: As a class, we began the "Who is Lyddie?" Project. Students worked with a partner to complete the prep sheet.
HW: Work on the "Who is Lyddie?" Prep Worksheet if not done in class. This MUST be done before they can move to the Art Portion of the "Who is Lyddie?" Project.
Tuesday: Students continued their work on the "Who is Lyddie?" project. Students finished their prep sheet first, before they began working on their "Who is Lyddie?" Project Art portion.
HW: All students need to walk in on Monday with the Project Planner FINISHED!
Read for joy over break! Students should read their Independent Reading novel for at least an hour over break. The Independent Reading Book Review Assignment is posted for them on Google Classroom.
Week 14: 11/18-11/22
Monday: Vocab Groups #4 & #5 presented their Word Wizard presentations for Chapters 13-18. Discussion Groups then met to discuss their third discussion role. With time remaining, students began to read Chapter 19.
HW: Finish reading Chapter 19 of Lyddie and Sticky Notes. Study for our Spelling Bee on Wednesday! Study Guides are posted in Google Classroom.
Tuesday: We had a mini lesson on MOOD. Students viewed movie trailers to practice identifying the mood, before viewing stations on the mood of different parts of Lyddie. Students then worked on reading Chapters 20-21.
HW: Finish reading Chapters 20 & 21 and write out your Reading Sticky Notes. Study for tomorrow's Spelling Bee! Study Guides are posted in Google Classroom.
Wednesday: 7-3 Spelling Bee in class! Each Core will have 1 Champion. After the Bee, students will have time to finish reading Lyddie, Chapters 22 & 23. When they finish reading, they will complete their final Role Sheet for Friday's Discussion #4.
HW: Finish reading Lyddie! Sticky Notes for Chapters 22 & 23.
Thursday: Students had a work day to finalize their Lyddie Discussion Packet. All four roles should be complete. Role #4 will be shared in tomorrow's discussion. Vocab Groups #6, #7, and #8 had time in class to meet to make their Word Wizard presentations for tomorrow.
HW: Finish up the Discussion Role #4 for tomorrow's discussion! Vocab Groups #6-#8 will need to be ready to present their Word Wizard presentation. All students need to bring an Independent Reading (IR) novel to class tomorrow!
Friday: Vocab Groups #6, #7, and #8 presented their Word Wizard presentations. Discussion Groups then held their fourth and final Discussion on Lyddie, Chapters 19-23. We introduced the 2nd Quarter Book Review Assignment. Students had time to read their IR novel with the time remaining.
HW: Read your IR novel this weekend! Have a great weekend. Two more days!
Week 13: 11/12-11/15
Monday: No School for Veteran's Day.
Tuesday: Students then got to preview the Module 2 Unit 1 Mid-Unit Assessment that we will take TOMORROW. Students had a mini-lesson on types of conflict in novels (Core 1 only - Core 3 did this before track-out). As a class, we read Chapter 13 together for as much as time allowed.
HW: Finish reading Chapter 13, and do your 3 Reading Sticky Notes! Be prepared for the Mid-Unit Assessment. Look over Chapter 12 & 13 very CLOSELY :)
Wednesday: Our Class Spelling Bee will be next Wednesday, November 20th. Students that wish to prepare can find Study Guides on Google Classroom, and I printed one Study Guide for them. Students took the Module 2 Unit 1 Mid-Unit Assessment. When students finished, they read or listened to the audio for Lyddie Chapters 14 & 15.
HW: Finish reading Lyddie through Chapter 14. Make sure you have 3 sticky notes for both Chapter 14 !
Thursday: Students finished their Mid-Unit Assessment from yesterday if not complete. When they finished, students began reading Chapter 15. Vocab Group #2 presented their Vocab Presentation that we ran out of time for before track-out.

Friday: Students had a mini-lesson to discuss sexual harassment & bullying found in Lyddie. We had Vocab Group #2 & #3's presentation. Students read Chapter 17 & 18 and began work on their Discussion Role #3.

Week 12: 10/14-10/18
Monday: Students had their first Discussion Date for Lyddie. Each student shared their role with the rest of their discussion group. Vocab Group #1 shared their vocabulary presentation for chapters 4-6.
HW: Read Chapter 7 of Lyddie and complete the 3 Sticky Reading Notes for the chapter.
Tuesday: Students continued reading in preparation for Discussion Date #2. Students worked on Chapter 8 & 9 in class.
HW: Finish reading through Chapter 9 and have all Sticky Notes done.
Wednesday: Students continued their preparation for Discussion Date #2. Students read Chapters 10-11 of Lyddie and began working on their role for Discussion Date #2.
HW: Read through Chapter 11 of Lyddie! Have all Sticky Reading Notes complete.
Thursday: As a class, we read chapter 12 together. Students then had a Discussion Date #2 Work-day. Students finalized their role for Discussion Date #2. Vocab Groups #2 & #3 had RIDGE Time today to prepare their Word Wizard presentations for tomorrow.
HW: Be ready for tomorrow's Discussion Date #2! Make sure your role is ready to be shared with your group. Vocab Groups #2 & #3 need to be ready to present tomorrow. All students should bring their Independent Reading novel for class tomorrow!
Friday: Discussion Date #2 in class. Students met with their group to share out on Chapters 7-12 of Lyddie. Vocab Groups #2 & #3 then presented their Word Wizard Presentations for Chapters 7-9 & 10-12, respectively. Students had the remainder of the period to read their Independent Novel.
HW: Read at least three hours over track-out of Independent Reading! We will continue reading Lyddie when we return. Discussion Date #3 will be on chapters 13-18 and will be on Monday, November 18th. Vocab Groups #4 & #5 will be presenting their Word Wizard presentations, too.
Week 11: 10/7-10/11
Monday: Individually or with one partner, students read articles on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire and Lowell Mill Girls. Students answered questions based on both readings after completion.
HW: Finish the questions for each reading. This will be collected first thing tomorrow!
Tuesday: Students received their copy of Lyddie in class today. Students worked on the Working Conditions Anchor Chart and investigated the setting of Lyddie. As a class, we read Chapter 1 as an introduction to the novel.
HW: Finish reading Chapter 2 tonight!
Wednesday: Students had a mini lesson on setting. Students were introduced to their Lit Circle Discussion Roles. Each week students will complete a different role for their small group as we read Lyddie. We also reviewed the expectations for the Group Vocabulary Presentations that will begin on Monday. Students had work time for Discussion Date #1, focusing on reading Chapters 3 & 4.
HW: Finish reading Chapters 3 & 4 if not done in class.
Thursday: Students had a mini lesson on characterization. I modeled what the Word Wizard (Vocabulary) Presentation should look like for everyone. As a class, we read chapters 5 & 6. Students then had time to work on their Discussion Role for the Discussion Date on Monday.
HW: Re-read Chapter 5 & 6. Bring your Independent Reading novel tomorrow!
Friday: Students took a Quick Check on Chapter 1 & 2 from Lyddie. Students had the remainder of the period to prepare their role for the Discussion Date on Monday. Vocab Group #1 prepared their presentation for chapters 4-6.
HW: Be ready for our Discussion Date #1 on Monday! Make sure you have your role done before class. Vocab Group #1 needs to be sure their presentation is ready for after the Discussion Date #1.
