Academic, Honors, AP, IB, & CCP
All core courses required for graduation are offered at the Academic level. This is our base level of rigor for coursework where students are expected to be challenged and master course objectives outlined by the course curriculum.
Students who are demonstrating consistent success (earning As and Bs) in Academic courses, should talk to their teacher and counselor about pursuing Honors courses.
All core courses required for graduation are also offered at the Honors level. This is a step up in rigor from the base, Academic level of coursework. In Honors courses, teachers have higher expectations for students and often assign additional coursework and content to further challenge students and provide more in-depth learning opportunities.
Students who are demonstrating consistent success in Honors courses (earning As and Bs), should talk to their teacher and counselor about pursuing AP, IB, and/or CCP courses.
Career & College Promise courses are college-level courses. CCP courses are FREE of charge. These courses are taught by instructors/professors at Wake Tech Community College and are taught on campus at Wake Tech or Virtually. The CCP Program offers a wide variety of college level courses designed specifically for students planning to pursue a university degree after high school (the College-Transfer Pathway) OR a community college degree after high school (the CTE Pathway).
To take CCP courses, students must apply and register through Wake Tech's website linked below.
To get started, visit the Wake Tech CCP website (linked below) and click "NEW CCP STUDENT".
CCP classes are not meant to replace high school graduation requirements, but can be used to do so via the Dual Allowances Chart (linked below). This requires very detailed planning with a Wake Tech advisor.
More about CCP courses:
CCP courses are offered in the summer, fall, and spring.
Wake Tech operates on a semester schedule, not an A/B day schedule. Fall semester classes start in August and end in December. Spring semester classes start in January and end in May.
Most courses are offered as in-person, hybrid, and online. Students may choose which format when registering for classes.
Wake Tech CCP course final grades are recorded on Broughton's transcript and do factor into overall GPA.
Check the Course Code Master List and CTE Course Code List to see course weights for each course. Not all courses give AP or Honors credit
CCP courses are not AP courses. There is no AP exam affiliated with CCP courses.
Your counselor at Broughton cannot register you for classes at Wake Tech. You must apply directly to Wake Tech to enroll and register for classes through your Wake Tech student account. Your counselor can help guide you along the way, but we have no control over your classes, grades, schedule, or professors at Wake Tech.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses provide students the opportunity to participate in rigorous courses and possibly earn college credit while still in high school. AP courses are FREE of charge and taught at Broughton High School by Broughton teachers. Students are provided the opportunity to take the corresponding AP exam in May where they have the potential to earn college credit if they demonstrate mastery.
AP courses are appropriate for students who have been successful in honor courses, have committed work habits, and are prepared to experience the challenge of a college level course.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme at Broughton is considered the most rigorous program of study offered at our school.
