North Carolina House Bill 259 requires all high schools in the state to notify currently enrolled students in grade 9 & 10 of the opportunity to graduate from high school after their third year. This legislation allows students to apply to be a three-year graduate. Eligible students are only able to apply for this flexibility if they meet the state’s minimum graduation requirements (22 credits).
At Broughton, we greatly value the high school experience and believe and recommend that graduating with 26 credits provides students with an opportunity to expand their academic pursuits and interests as well as student involvement in extracurricular activities. That said, we also realize that the opportunity to graduate a year early may be of interest to some of our students and families. For more information on this option, please see the resources below:
