Death

When a person is dying, their family visits them and and makes sure someone stays with the dying person so they do not die alone.
Just before they die, the person makes the final confession (Vidui) and recites the Shema prayer
When they die, Jewish men will be wrapped and buried in their tallit

Shema

Vidui (Deathbed Confession)

When a parent dies, a son (sometimes a daughter) recites the Kaddish, a special prayer
The Kaddishsh is recited each morning and evening in the synagogue for 11 months after the death

Kaddish Prayer

Intense mourning follows a person’s death, especially while waiting for their burial, then for 7 days after the burial
followed by a further 30 days of lesser mourning.

These rules are traditional customs to show:
- respect to the dying person
- They accept that God has taken their loved one’s life.
