Vidui (Deathbed Confession)
When a parent dies, a son (sometimes a daughter) recites the Kaddish, a special prayer
The Kaddishsh is recited each morning and evening in the synagogue for 11 months after the death
Kaddish Prayer
Intense mourning follows a person’s death, especially while waiting for their burial, then for 7 days after the burial
followed by a further 30 days of lesser mourning.
These rules are traditional customs to show:
respect to the dying person
They accept that God has taken their loved one’s life.
