College Rep Visits

Each fall, admissions representatives from numerous colleges and universities across the country visit high schools, looking to meet with interested seniors. At Wayne Hills, we host upwards of 50 college visits each fall. These short meetings provide valuable opportunities and insight for our juniors and seniors.

Who are the representatives?

The schools send a representative from their admissions department; it could be an alumnus who graduated from their school and was hired right away or it could be an assistant director of admissions. All representatives are knowledgeable and provide key insight for students thinking of applying.

What happens during a college visit?

Students have the opportunity to ask questions about the admissions process, specific program questions, campus, living arrangements, or internship opportunities. This is an important way for our students to begin documenting their interest in particular schools.

Why should my child attend college visits?

The admissions representatives who come are often the first “reader” for our area, meaning that the rep your child meets with might be the first person to look at their application. Representatives keep a list of all the students they meet with, which is why documented interest through college visits (and individual campus visits you may take) is so important and may aid in the decision process.

How will my child know which schools are coming?

As visits are scheduled in the fall, a list is updated on Naviance. You can find it in the “Colleges” tab and look at the “College Visits” heading. Students are required to sign up via the link in Naviance so they can be provided with a pass. Teachers will dismiss students from class at their discretion to attend the college visit, and attendance will be taken. The visits are typically limited to around 30 minutes, and students are responsible for any missed work during that time.
