Today I was hoping we could talk about chickens!
I love chickens, so cute!
I actually found a really cool study about how they behave when they're under stress
Believe it or not, there's a lot we can learn from them, especially in times of worry or stress
Tell me more, you say?
So, the scientist running the experiment got a group of chickens together and then picked one chicken and decided to give it a fright
Nothing out of the ordinary happened, the chicken was afraid, panicked, and fearful.
Then the scientist brought in a second chicken
Seeing how frightened the first chicken was, the second chicken also became afraid, but the second chicken never saw the first chicken getting a fright
she just felt the fear and panic the first was experiencing
When the second chicken panicked, the first one got even more afraid than it ever was to begin with!
That's not even the juicy bit...
If the second chicken didn't react to the first chicken being afraid, and instead stayed calm and confident, the first chicken began to relax
Its fear and panic floating away
My point is that you have the power to stop the cycle of fear and panic
The next time someone you care about comes to you frightened and overwhelmed, be that cool, calm, and collected second chicken
Be their rock amidst the fear
What if I don't feel that way?
Hmm, good point
While it's not helpful to push aside how we actually feel, it does help both parties if you can try and project assurance and confidence
Because when we try and stay calm for someone else, it can sometimes help to reduce the intensity of distress we feel as well
and even better, makes the whole thing reciprocal!
-Remember, emotions can be contagious. A calm steady presence can do wonders for you and the people around you
Be the calm chicken you wish to see in the world
One last thing, why did the chicken cross the road?
-I don't know, why?
Oh, I was hoping you knew, it's a question I hear humans ask a lot
I guess we'll never fully understand those birds!
