Health Promotion

Health Promotion is a statewide program that supports programs within our communities that improve the health of North Carolinians in efforts to prevent chronic diseases. Local health departments receive funds to operate health promotion programs to work with community partners in creating policy and environmental changes that address chronic disease risk factors like physical inactivity, poor diet, and substance use.

These risk factors contribute to preventable causes of death in North Carolina. They are known to cause cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity & other preventable chronic diseases.

The Yancey County Health Department’s Health Promotion and Education program aspires to provide quality health education to the residents of Yancey County. We believe your health is in your hands and you have the power to make good choices for your health. We want to provide the resources needed in order to make choices for better health outcomes.

Our Health Promotion and Education program focuses on creating a healthier community, healthier living across the lifespan, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

We achieve our vision by collaborating with other local organizations who support health and wellness and provide a wide-range of quality programs that improve health.
