Our Director

Misty Randolph, MHS, MLS (ASCP)

Misty Randolph is the Yancey County Health Director. As the Health Director, Misty serves as the chief executive officer of Yancey County Health Department. Her work involves providing leadership and directing program development and delivery systems. The local health director supervises budget activities and may maintain direct involvement in the conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues and serve as the spokesperson for government officials, medical societies, health care providers, public schools and a variety of advocacy groups to influence the decision-making processes in order to insure adequate resources for program maintenance and expansion and the delivery of comprehensive services. The health director in a public health authority serves at the pleasure of the Yancey County Board of Health, to whom she reports. 


Misty has 26 years of extensive experience in health care. She has a master’s degree from Western Carolina University in Health Sciences with a focus in Healthcare Administration. Most recently, Misty for The Joint Commission as a field surveyor before joining Yancey County as the Health Director. Misty worked for many years in the hospital system as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and was a Director of Laboratory Services. She also worked in Quality, Risk Management, and Accreditation. 


Misty is happily married with four children and one grandchild. In her spare time, Misty enjoys reading, gardening and traveling. Misty is a native of Yancey County.
