Lucía Domínguez de Toro

Soy Lucía Domínguez de Toro, alumna de 4º ESO-British en el IES Al-Qázeres y curso la asignatura de Cultura Científica. Tengo 15 años y vivo en Cáceres, Extremadura.

Desde pequeña siempre he tenido bastante claro que quiero estudiar una carrera que pertenezca a la rama de Ciencias de la Salud, ya que siempre he querido ayudar a la gente que más lo necesita. Estaba convencida que iba a estudiar Medicina para ser cirujana, pero con el paso del tiempo me di cuenta que la sangre y yo no nos llevamos muy bien. Por eso empecé a investigar otras posibilidades que estuviesen relacionadas con la salud pero en las que no hubiese sangre de por medio. No tenía muy claro qué carrera estudiar ya que ninguna opción me convencía demasiado. Sin embargo, escuché a hablar de la Bioquímica y descubrí que eso era lo que quería estudiar. Además, este curso, gracias a mi profesora de de Cultura Científica, Toñi Caballero, he descubierto que me encanta trabajar en el laboratorio y que podría pasarme horas al microscopio y haciendo cultivos y tinciones sin aburrirme.

Personalmente, creo que la investigación científica en España no está tan desarrollada como en otros países, por eso me gustaría estudiar fuera de España. El curso que viene lo estudiaré en USA, y allí espero poder reafirmar que mi verdadera pasión es la investigación.

Entre mis aficiones se encuentra hacer deporte (voy al gimnasio y compito en natación), leer todo tipo de libros y novelas, los idiomas, quedar con mis amigos, conocer gente nueva,... pero lo que de verdad me apasiona es viajar, vivir nuevas experiencias y conocer diferentes culturas.

I am Lucía Domínguez de Toro, a student of 4th of Secondary School at the IES Al-Qázeres, where I study the subject of Scientific Culture. I am 15 years old, and I live in Cáceres, Extremadura.

Since a young age I have had very clear that I want to study something related to Science Health, as I have always wanted to help the ones who really need it. I was convinced that I was going to study medicine to be a surgeon, but as time went along I realised that blood and I weren't friends. Due to that I started to investigate other carreers that are related to health but that did not envolve blood. I wasn't sure what carreer to study as none of them really convinced me. However I heard about Biochemestry and I found out that that was what I really wanted to study. Moreover, this schoolar year, my teacher Toñi Caballero, has helped me to reasure that working in the lab is my passion and that I could be observing through a microscope for hours without getting tired.

Personally, I think that the scientific research in labs located in Spain is not as developed as it is in another countries, that is the main reason why I would love to study abroad. Next year I am going to study in the US, and there I hope to check that Biochemestry is what I really want to study.

My hobbies are practicing sports (I usually go to the gym and I practice swimming and compete with my team), readimg all kinds of books, languages, be with my friends, meet new people,... but what really makes me enjoy my free time is traveling, living new experiences and discover new cultures.
