PKSC 1020, also known as Introduction to Packaging Science, this course considers the functions of a package; the materials, processes, and technology utilized in the various stages of package development. As well as the relationship of packaging to the corporation, consumer, and society as a whole. In this class, I was first introduced to all the various aspects of the field of packaging science. It is in this class where we also learn about the different emphasis areas us students will eventually choose and helps us learn more about each emphasis area before making our decision. When I took this class is when I immediately became entranced by packaging science and everything around it. I had never knew how much had gone into something as simple as a plastic water bottle before this class and after this class could not wait to learn more and more about this field of study. This class taught me not only about the various fields of packaging science, but some of the history of this field of study as well. Upon finishing this course, I was already amazed at how much information I had learned about packaging just from the introductory course and was excited to see what other information lay ahead of me in the future courses. Unfortunately when I took this class in the Spring of 2018, that particular semester we did not create the general framework for this ePortfolio nor did we work with the 1941 Studio for Student Communication.
