My name is Wilson Pate and I am from Greenville, South Carolina. Growing up, I always had an interest in mathematics and science which is what ultimately drew me to attending Clemson University.
Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed learning about different fields of science and their applications. I've always been an avid puzzle and trivia fan, always trying to challenge myself and figuring out the solution. All through elementary, middle, and high school I was always a part of or member of the school's robotics program. It was in these program's where I loved to build, work, and solve problems together as a team. I'm grateful for these experiences as they helped me research and learn about different areas of study that involved robotics along with science and mathematics. Had it not been for my experience over the years with robotics programs, I may have never further peaked my interest in science and problem solving and may have never ended up choosing Clemson.
Once I received my acceptance letter from Clemson, I was beyond excited to pursue a career in the field of science and math. I could not wait to pursue my dream degree. Upon accepting the letter, I knew that all my hard work and studying paid off as I had arrived at my dream university.
Throughout my college career, it was not without its ups and downs. During my freshman year, I was still getting used to how the new change-up in life and trying to adjust in order to do my best. Unfortunately my first semester my freshman year I ended up having a rather horrid GPA as I had severely underestimated the amount of work and effort required to do well and succeed in my classes. Moving forward from this bad first start, I knew now that I had to work harder in order to improve my current GPA as well succeed in my classes. That next semester, I better communicated with my professors to ensure I was doing well in my classes and was aware of anything required for me in their courses. On top of working with my professors more, I also made sure to spend more time on campus and in the library along with better study habits. Because of this, I managed to improve my overall GPA and succeed in all of my courses from that semester. From my freshman year, I learned better study habits and time management skills that ultimately helped me throughout my college career and not only helped me survive, but thrive.
