At a certain point within the Packaging Science program, students are required to declare either a minor or an emphasis area of study. There are four different emphasis areas available that include: Distribution, Transportation, and Engineering Technology; Food and Health Care Packaging; Package Design and Graphics; and Materials. When the time came for me to make a decision, I decided to choose my emphasis area to be in Materials.
I chose emphasis area as materials because when I was a bioengineering major, I chose my emphasis area for that major to be in biomaterials. Prior to transferring into the packaging science program, I had taken several chemistry courses along with the introduction to material science and really reveled in the material I was learning. So after taking a handful of the introductory packaging courses I knew that the Materials emphasis area was the right fit for me as I enjoyed studying and learning about different materials and their uses.
