Walkden Award Schemes

We have 3 Award Schemes that we actively promote within Walkden High School.

First up, we have our very own STARS & STRIPES Personal Development Scheme. This is where you complete challenges to earn your STARS & STRIPES, as you complete the challenges you develop key employability skills which will help you leave Walkden High School ready to take on the world. You also a receive a certificate, a gold plated badge and 50 achievement points for each challenge completed. What's not to like?

Secondly, we have a very popular Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Programme, which is available to all YR10s.

Since its creation in 1956 by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT, the DofE has gone from strength to strength. Guided by the same set of principles and by young people themselves, it’s as relevant today as it was then.

A flexible programme that helps to develop young people for life and work, the numbers speak for themselves: 93% of participants feel that DofE has helped them to work in a team and 84% feel that they have become a more responsible person.

From 1,000 DofE Awards achieved in year one to 133,369 last year, we have both a rich history and a bright future. Why not let our timeline and our young people tell you more?

Last, but not least, we have the brand new Duke of York's iDEA Awards.

iDEA

The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award, known as iDEA, aims to equip young people with digital and enterprise skills. Wherever they are – on the bus, in the LRC, at school or in their bedroom, people can access resources to inspire them for their future careers and help unlock their potential.

Inspired by The Duke of Edinburgh Award (which has supported 8 million young people since its inception), iDEA helps young people learn how to make, create, build and shine in the digital world.

How iDEA works

Learners take part in a series of challenges in order to win awards. For every new skill and learning experience mastered, iDEA learners are awarded a digital badge. Each badge carries a number of points. When participants earn enough points, they are awarded the Bronze, Silver or Gold Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award.
