Walkden High

Army Cadets 2019

Pupil information

Who should join the cadets?

Quite simply, anyone. It doesn't matter what gender you are, whether you like sport, or not, whether you are academic, or not. This is an entirely different experience to the classroom. However, everything that you learn within the cadets will benefit your experience at school and prepare you for your future. You will become a leader.

What Year Groups

The Cadets state you must be in at least Year 8 to join. Due to the planned April 2019 start date, we recommend the cadets to Year 8 & 9 initially. This ensures that you will have enough time in school to complete the full Cadet experience.

Benefits of being a Walkden Army Cadet

Becoming a cadet within the Combined Cadet Force can be a life-changing experience. Being a cadet will give you the opportunity to take part in a huge range of exciting and adventurous, military-themed activities - there is something for everyone.

You will quickly build important skills like teamwork, confidence and self-discipline, as well as having the opportunity to take on leadership roles. Being a Walkden High Cadet will offer you a chance to get to know a wide-range of people from across the school, and work together to take on new challenges. Whatever your academic ability, the Cadets can give you the chance to shine.

ACTIVITIES

Training will be split over parade evenings, field days and occasional weekend camps and courses. Parade evenings take place at the school, and run once a week. This provides the basic training across a number of different areas, which is then enhanced during field days and weekend training camps, where cadets will spend longer periods of time developing a particular skill, or working towards a qualification.

There are lots of opportunities to gain recognised qualifications in disciplines like first aid, and the chance to take part in national programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. There are a number of different vocational qualifications for cadets.
