On Halloween, teachers and staff dressed up and passed out candy to eager students who attended our annual Trunk or Treat in the school parking lot.
Thank you to all teachers, staff, and parents who made this event happen for our Whittier community—and to the kiddos who showed off their fabulous costumes! Just take a look at some of the fun moments we captured!
What do pies, duct tape, and dancing have in common? They all helped make our second annual Be the Change fundraiser a smashing success! Thanks to our amazing students, we raised $1,215.46 for silent disco equipment!
Second graders led the charge with $258.48, followed closely by first graders with $215.70. Their hard work earned them some wacky fun: first graders duct-taped Mrs. Champion to the gym wall, and second graders smashed pies in Mr. Tom’s face. Both teachers were amazing sports, making the day as fun as it was memorable.
Thank you to everyone who contributed and to the students who are actively being the change every day!
We started this year with $9,000 of grant money for the 24/25 school year, and still have nearly $8,000 waiting to be used! Grants awarded this year have helped purchase craft supplies, a Rockalingua subscription, books, and other things needed around the classroom, and we want to help eve more!
If you know a Whittier teacher or staff member who is in need of financial support for a project, supplies, or even a field trip, please pass along this link to the brief application: Whittier PTO Grant Request Form.
If you’re interested in contributing funds so we can continue to support the Whittier staff in this way, there are several ways to donate (and your donations are tax deductible!). See Viking Village: Donate for more information.
October’s book fair was a huge success! Thanks to your support, we raised $4,000 for books—nearly matching last year’s record of $4,200!
These funds will greatly enhance our library’s collection by adding more Spanish-language books, early reader selections, and other high-interest titles that are sure to engage students. Remaining funds will provide new books to be awarded as prizes during Read Across America Week.
We’d like to send a big thanks to Chuck E. Cheese for their donation of $134 from our October restaurant FUNdraiser. Last year, we raised $1,200 through restaurant fundraisers and need your help to beat that number this year!
When you order from a participating restaurant on the day and time of the fundraiser, the restaurant donates a portion of their sales to Whittier. We will have one FUNdraiser every month, so be sure to check out the upcoming events (and when you order during the event, let the cashier know you’re there for the Whittier FUNdraiser!).
Last month, we shared information about our Viking Village Gifters initiative, and we are excited to announce that gifting is in full swing! Our Facebook group, Viking Village Families is a special space designed to bring families together by making it easy to share and receive items. Whether you have gently-used items to give away or you're on the lookout for something specific, Viking Village Gifters is the perfect place to exchange and support each other. You might even be able to find a tutor too!
We invite all families to join in and make the most of this exciting new resource!
Have you been wondering how you can help make a difference for students and staff at Whittier? Look no further! We would love any support you can provide, or if you’re interested in either the Secretary or Vice President position, let us know, or join us at our December 18 PTO meeting at 4 pm in the library!
You Me We All is a Boise-based and parent-led nonprofit organization focused on supporting youth mental wellness in schools. Through partnerships among families, youth, schools, teachers, counselors, and the community, they seek to empower youth and families with evidence-based resources, meaningful engagement, and community collaborations.
The organization is currently spearheading four initiatives: appropriate use of technology in schools, transitioning to recommended school start times to improve sleep and mood, fostering more outdoor experiences for youth, and upstream suicide prevention. You Me We All organizes educational speaker events throughout the year and maintains a wealth of parent resources on their website. To learn more visit YouWeMeAll.org or sign-up for their newsletter.
