Parent involvement plan

The purpose of the Viking Village is to support the education of our students at Whittier Elementary by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. If you are a parent or caregiver of a child at Whittier Elementary School, congratulations! You are already a member of the Viking Village. We hope to see you at a meeting, event, or volunteering in the classroom, on a committee or fundraiser, at a field trip, or in your home. Your involvement is invaluable; it shows the children how much you value their education and that you support our school and its staff in providing it!

‍We strive to empower parents as partners, alongside our Viking Staff,  to foster CONNECTING with each other in our Whittier Community, while CREATING relationships,  and COLLABORATING through parent engagement to support our children’s academic success and personal growth. 

‍Join our Village?

‍Viking Voices will have once a month business meetings to discuss school wide events, budgets, etc. In addition, quarterly, we will designate a time and space to discuss topics, answer questions, and learn together as a community. These conversations might have guest speakers and will be known as the Viking Voices Forum. 

There is no cost to join. Our members just need to:

• Register and attend a minimum of 2 Viking Village meetings either in person or virtually.

• Volunteer a minimum of two times each semester. The opportunities are endless: school events, school pantry, caring closet, take stuff home to cut up, translate fliers in your native tongue, and more. (Many different ways of collaborating are all considered volunteering!) 

‍Village Perks

• Free admissions or tickets for some family events like Fall Bazaar, Summer Send off Picnic, and more.  

• Reserved seating at Assembly/Graduation, Music performances, etc.

• Throughout the year, raffles for Whittier Spirit Wear/Swag, gift cards for different places in our community.

• Quarterly raffles for your students to have lunch with staff members of their choice or be principal for a day.
