People who listen to the style of music that I create tend to be the younger generation who are all really active on social media. For this reason, if you are wanting to succeed in making this kind of music, it is best to have an Instagram page that is really eye catching to this younger audience.
One of the main people that comes to mind when I try and think of who I know has a good Instagram account is Blanks. He has been hugely successful by involving people through his Instagram account. Looking at these screenshots, you can see how he makes his profile eye-catching by using bright colours and imagery that reflects his style of music. He manages to involve his audience in his writing process by allowing them to comment on his posts and actually listens to what they have to say.
His reels are also very popular as they tend to give snippets of new songs and live snippets of live performances of those new songs.
My Instagram
Here is a screenshot of my current Instagram account. I have tried to follow what Blanks has done by making all the styles of the photos and videos similar to the ones of my music.
YouTube
YouTube is one of the easiest ways to get your music out to your audience. This is because, other than the few ads you get every now and then, it is completely free for the consumer to use. Therefore it is best to make use of this and make your page as efficient as possible.
Here are a few examples of different people's YouTube channels:
As you can see from these screenshots, all 3 of these artists follow a similar formula. They all have there profile pic, channel art or both to be something related to there most recent work and they all have either there most recent uploads or most popular uploads section first, so that new viewers can find what they are looking for easily.
My YouTube Channel
I have tried to follow the same formula that other artists do with my YouTube channel. My only issue is that I currently don't have much content to upload to it. I have, however, set my banner to be part of the cover of a song that will be releasing shortly as a little teaser.
Website
A website acts as the central hub to all your content, new music, social media and merchandising shops. Therefore, it is important that you get it right and make sure it is both aesthetically pleasing as well as easy to navigate. It also needs to be quick and simple so the user doesn't have any confusion with it whatsoever.
Taking a look at these three sites, you can see how the layout of all of them is very similar. One of the first things you come across is the links to their social medias next to their name printed in big at the top of the page. All but Ed Sheeran's sites has this. Ed's opts into having his new album and tour front and centre, which is the second things present on the other two sites. After this, all three sites have some form of music video being shown off with a link for you to watch the full video. Charlie Puth's site is fairly simple and stops at this. It is also the most aesthetically pleasing site out of the three and easiest to use. Ed Sheeran and Finneas' site both go on to have a merchandise store at the bottom of the page with an easy way to find all of their tour dates.
My Website
I have also tried to follow the same formula that these other three artists have used for their sites by having my name be big and bold and one of the first things you see, along with the links to my social media and YouTube channel. The next thing will then be my latest music release along with the latest video to go with it. I obviously don't have any merchandise yet but if I did, I would have put this next.
EPK
Having an EPK is very important in the music industry as it allows other professionals to quickly analyse you and your work and be able to tell if you're worth working with. For this reason, I am going to try and make one of my own by looking into what needs to go on one and how other people have done theirs.
Here are a couple of examples to analyse:
What we see to start off with is in each of these press kits, they start off by putting their name big and bold and a professionally taken photo right next to it. The next part that is common in both is the short bio about themselves. This is written in the third person perspective and is usually quite exaggerated. After that it seems like it is common to get even more professional photos along with some sample music and some sample videos. Sometimes, they can include other things such as a contact box and the awards and accolades section that we see in the Big Little Lions press kit.
We have been given the opportunity to showcase the music we have written to the public via this showcase event on the 10th May.
This is a perfect way to market my EP and build interest for it before it gets released to the public.
