About Part 2
In part 2 I will be looking into and learning all the popular chords that are commonly used on the mandolin. Doing this will hopefully make it easier for me to learn the song that I will choose to record. The main chords used on the mandolin are in the picture to the left.
Due to the mandolins tuning, the chords on a mandolin are the upside down version of the same chords on a guitar!
These are the chords of F and F sharp minor. They are very similar chords as they create the same finger positioning on the neck, you just have to move up one fret.
These chords are B flat and B minor. Just like with F and F sharp minor, these chords similar in the way that they create the same finger positioning but one fret further up the neck.
The chords of G and C are also very similar to each other on the mandolin. This time we have the same chord shape just one string up.
In a similar way to G and C, the chords of Em and A use the same chord shape but you just need to move up a string for A.
The chords of D and Dm. Obviously these two are going to be similar as they variations of the same chord. For Dm you only need to change one note from D, but to do this, you need to flip your fingers around.
E is quite a difficult chord to play as you want to be careful not to mute the high E string.
A is a fairly easy chord to play as it only takes two fingers in relatively easy-to-reach positions.
