Draft 1
During this session, I payed a few chords on my guitar and quite liked the sound. I thought I could do something more with it so I got into Logic and played it through a 80s keyboard sound. I really liked this sound so I started to add to it. I did this by adding a bass guitar and I built some drums. It was finally starting to get somewhere. I started to play around with the different synth sounds in Logic and came across one that added a nice ambience to the track. Last thing I did was add a shaker and then the chorus was sounding good. I then stripped back what I had a bit and turned this into a verse.
Draft 2
Today, I wanted to build more upon the track I started last time. I did this by making a full structure for the entire song, which goes: intro, verse 1, chorus 1, verse 2, chorus 2 and a final guitar solo. Other than that, I started to mix the instruments a bit to see what the song was going to sound like completed.
Draft 3
Today, I carried on extending on what I had done last time. To start off with, I left the second verse very bare last time, so I built this up a bit by adding a bass guitar and a couple of synths to add a bit more texture then there was in the first verse. I then moved on to bulking up the final solo to make it the biggest part of the song. To do this, I added some percussion in the form of a shaker and a tambourine, a piano and a synth that plays arpeggios. I realised that I didn't really like the shaker I put at the start of the song so that is now gone. The last thing I did today was add a bit of production to the song. I did this by adding an old vinyl crackle at the start of the song so that whatever you listen on, you get that feel of just putting a new record on.
Draft 4
I didn't have a lot of time today, so all that has been added from the previous version of the project is a guitar that plays arpeggios in the verse and is there to add a little bit more texture to the chorus.
Draft 5
Today I finally added the guitar solo at the end of the song. I found that really suited the song on Logic and play it in through a keyboard. I also did quite a lot of production work and added a lot of different effects and added all the automation that the track needed. Other than lyrics, the track is now finished. At the same time, I also bulked up the second and last chorus with synths to give it a much more striking feel.
Draft 6
Unfortunately, I didn't get time to write the lyrics. I have recorded a melody line for both verses and the chorus using a classic electric piano sound on Logic. This is the finished piece.
