Guitar
For the guitar, I used my Tokai Stratocaster. This is because the Stratocaster is known to have a very adaptable sound and so I thought this would be my best option to get as close to the original sound of the Telecaster. I plugged the guitar into my Line 6 amp and recorded it into Logic using my Rode NT-1A. I had the microphone point towards the inside of the speaker cone just before the nipple. I added reverb through the amp as I thought this sounded very close to the original as well. I then added some EQ to try and clean up the sound a bit.
Bass Guitar
I used the "Liverpool Bass" Logic instrument and then played the notes on my midi keyboard. I used this software instrument because it is a remake of the same bass that Blanks used in the original track. You can see the settings I used on it in the picture to the right.
Drums
I managed to find the exact drum instrument track that Blanks used in the original, Bluebird. I recorded all the different drums on different tracks, using my midi keyboard, so that I could add different levels of reverb and sound automation. The screenshot to the right shows the automation I added. This is the part the leads into the breakdown after the first chorus, when the drums come in gradually.
Synth
I actually managed to recreate the original synth sound almost exactly using the Retro Synth in Logic. I played the notes into Logic on my Midi keyboard and then added some reverb to give it a bit of a ring. The picture shows the settings I used on the retro synth.
