Catering & Decor

Catering and Decor

The third most important thing when it comes to planning a wedding is the food. While the edibles are closely followed by the artificial ambience, which in other words means the decor you are going to settle upon, the food is definitely one of the most complex hurdles.

Now, a large part of this is going to depend on what venue you are choosing. Most wedding venues have clauses that require you to buy beverages from them or use catering services that they have shortlisted. The problem with this is that evey catering company on that specific list is giving the venue management a cut, and a cut means that it is overpriced, plain and simple.

Before we get into that, let’s start with a look at what a basic meal plan looks like. Food at weddings is basically split into Four Major Parts:

  The Appetizers

  The Beverages

  The Main Course

  The Desserts/Cake

Now, while we have already established that outside catering friendly venues are a must, let’s look at a few other ways we can cut corners. To start with, let’s talk about the wedding cake. While most professional services tend to charge nearly twice the amount for a proper wedding cake, it might be a better idea for you to turn the wedding cake into a more affordable venture. Consider making your own wedding cake. Most online instructions now-a-days are so wonderfully detailed that it’s hard to go wrong. However, even if baking isn’t your thing, you could consider reaching out to a guest who is good at baking and ask them if they would consider pitching in their culinary skills as their wedding present.

Other than that, consider making the appetizers yourself. Fruit skewers or cheese and cracker sides are classy, and filling, while still simple enough for you to do on your own, leaving you with more money to splurge on the main course, which is really all that anyone remembers anyway!

  The Decor

Believe it or not, the best place for you to save on wedding expenses is on the decor. But, in order to understand exactly how that is possible, you need to first acquaint yourself with the concept of DIYs, more commonly known as Do It Yourselfs.

Most wedding decorations, with the exception of the flowers which are unfortunately a necessary expenditure, are objects that we buy off shelves in decor stores because we don’t have the time or patience to prepare them ourselves. Or we thought we didn’t have time.

If you have opted for a wedding venue that is not a regular wedding venue, you are going to have to put in massive chunks of time as you try to figure out how to turn your ordinary golf course into a wedding venue. And, to be absolutely honest, your planning doesn’t just stop there.

Sure, you’re saving a bundle on the venue, but that’s not going to be actual saving if you end up having to spend every cent you have saved on paper lanterns, paper flowers, garlands, cloth sashes, and what not. Instead, why not chalk some time out, or turn your bachelorette into a working night? Instead of spending the night steeped in booze, you and your girls can spend the night making garlands and centerpieces, or even party favors if you are so inclined.

Not to mention, if you can actually save enough on your decor, which is all superficial stuff that will ultimately get tossed out, you can spend a bit more money on your perfect wedding dress, which you would hold onto forever and maybe even pass down someday.
