• Marceline didn’t listen to a lot of modern music when she lived in the ocean, and the she spent time on land, she was overwhelmed with the different types of music genres. However, when spending time in Maison de Minuit, Tyler showed her various types of music. Marceline has developed her own musical taste, leaning more towards Reggaeton, R&B, and Pop music. She does enjoy some Rap/Hip-Hop, but only listens to the artists Tyler enjoys.

• After months of dating, Marceline finally told Tyler about her being a siren. At first, Tyler didn’t take it seriously, but after seeing the look on Marceline’s face, seeing her show her abilities, and even singing one of her siren songs, Tyler believed her. After learning why she was in the French Quarter, he immediately didn’t like Lucien Marais based on what Marceline told Tyler about him. This was because Lucien reminded him of Christopher Lockhart. 

• In her early life, Marceline’s education was based on her lineage of being royalty, trained in siren rites, elemental water magic, and voice work. She was groomed for a politically arranged marriage to uphold bloodline purity

• Later in life, when Marceline was given her nanny, she lived part-time on land on the East Coast, where Mira had her learn human customs. 

• Throughout her early adulthood, she learned literature and mythology, marine biology, philosophy and ethics, and of course languages, primarily being fluent in French and English. 

• As a side project, Marceline also learned about plants, mainly sea plants or anything that was close to ocean life. She also learned to adjust her voice so she wouldn’t cause harm to humans, let alone sailors.

• Born in the Atlantic Ocean by Celestine and Augustine Deveraux, Marceline hails from a royal family that descends from river sirens and Creole witches, protectors and punishing spirits who used their songs to guide, nurture, and if need be destroy. Her family’s legacy is steeped in both reverence and rigidity, upholding tradition with a sharp edge.

• Though her bond with her father was warm and affectionate, filled with songs, the arts, and discovering the things that could bring her joy, Celestine was a woman of structure and control. Obsessed with preserving their bloodline’s purity and political influence, Celestine made one thing clear: Marceline’s purpose was to marry into another powerful family, siren or witch, to strengthen the court’s dominion.  

• From adolescence, Marceline was groomed to be a bride. She was trained in siren rites, voice magic, and formal etiquette. While she followed orders outwardly, inside, she longed for a different life. She was restless, drawn to dreams of freedom and a world beyond the ocean’s reach. 

• Sensing this in his daughter, Augustine fired a mentor for her: Mira Langley, a retired elemental witch with ties to the human world. Mira educated Marceline in secret, teaching her about humanity, justice, ethics, and most importantly, choice. 

• Marceline spent her winters above the surface and her summers beneath the waves, living between two worlds and falling in love with the human one. Not out of naivete, but for its chaos, vulnerability, and emotional honesty, the things she was denied. However, that love fractured when her fate was sealed.

• Ordered by her mother, Marceline was arranged to marry Lucien Marais, an older siren from a noble family. To the outside world, Lucien was polished: handsome, articulate, and commanding. But Marceline saw through him; he was entitled, narcissistic, and emotionally cruel. He didn’t love her; he wanted to own her. In his own words, he intended to mold her to his ideal: ornamental, obedient, and silent. 

• This was not the love she dreamed of. This was not the future she would accept, not if she could help it. From there, Marceline made a choice that set her free, but that freedom came at a cost. The night before the bonding ceremony, she stole an ancient siren artifact, a moonstone ring that dulled her powers, and she fled. Marceline had escaped into the human world and resurfaced in New Orleans.

• Living quietly among the humans and the hidden, by day, she works at a coastal boutique and a floral shop in the French Quarter. By night, she sings in lounge bars where her voice carries magic, though few recognize it. As she settled into this strange, but exciting new life, she learned something that frightened her but had her curious to learn more: New Orleans is alive with more than witches and sirens. It breathes with vampires, werewolves, and humans with a different type of magic. As of now, she is no longer sure which world she truly belongs to.
