Walton Protein Modeling (ProMod) will be showcasing the scientific posters and 3D-printed protein models students developed and presented at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Conference held every spring. Come up to the 4th floor and explore the innovative research our students have conducted, see their intricate protein structures up close, and learn more about the real-world applications of molecular biology and biochemistry.
Walton High School’s Protein Modeling Team (ProMod), part of the national SMART (Students Modeling A Research Topic) program, is now in its 13th year of bringing molecular science to life. Founded by the Center for Biomolecular Modeling at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, SMART Teams connect students with researchers to study the structure–function relationship of real proteins. Walton students prepare professional abstracts and posters presented at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) conference each spring and use Jmol software to design full-color 3D-printed protein models. Through this experience, they develop teamwork, scientific literacy, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both experts and the public.
