The purpose of this course is to supply information and guidance to help the Yoga Therapy student become familiar with the foundations of Ayurveda system and the Ayurvedic assessment. Students will learn the role of Ayurveda in health and how lifestyle, diet, nutrition, and digestion are part of the development of disease. Students in the program will learn to identify a client’s dominant dosha, recognize dosha imbalances, and offer simple Ayurvedic therapies to assist the client back into a balanced state. This course is designed to give students an introductory understanding about the field of Ayurveda with the understanding that many Ayurveda therapies are beyond the scope of practice of the Yoga Therapist. The course will present the role of the Professional Ayurveda Practitioners in health care and when it may be appropriate to refer their clients to these professionals.
