PERSONAL GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
PERSONAL GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The domain Personal Growth and Professional Development is the seventh domain in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). According to the definition I gathered, it describes the capacity of educators to consistently enhance their professional knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and values. It also includes asking for criticism, practicing reflectively, and taking part in communities of practice and learning opportunities.
In my opinion, the personal growth and professional development domain is the lifeblood of effective education. As educators, committing to ongoing learning not only refines our teaching methods but also empowers us to inspire and guide students towards their full potential. It's not just a requirement, it's a responsibility we owe to ourselves and the students we serve.
As a student teacher, I experienced various ways in the field. During field study, I often encounter challenges that push me beyond my comfort zones. I initially struggled with public speaking. Through targeted coaching and practice, I gradually developed confidence, refined my communication skills, and eventually delivered a compelling presentation. This experience not only enhanced my academic abilities but also nurtured my invaluable life skills.
In numerous ways, I have also witnessed the significance of this field. During the conversations, I acquired knowledge on how to create and execute lesson plans that are both effective and suited to the requirements of the learners. Furthermore, I acquired the knowledge of utilizing various evaluation instruments and approaches to monitor and assess the students' progress and results. Working with cooperating teachers and my mentor teacher taught me how to collaborate and communicate as well. Additionally, I learned how to preserve the moral principles and values of the teaching profession, including professionalism, honesty, integrity, and respect.
Through these experiences, I have come to understand that personal growth and professional development are ongoing processes that call for passion, commitment, and dedication rather than being one-time events. I also came to the realization that personal growth and professional development are advantageous not just to me as a future teacher but also to my students, my future colleagues, and society in general.
