COMMUNITY LINKAGES AND PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Community Linkages is the sixth domain of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers. It means that teachers can form and keep relationships with parents, local governments, non-government organizations, and other people in the community to help students learn and grow. Community linkages also encourage students and teachers to work together, be socially responsible, and get involved in their communities.
As a student teacher, I have experienced the importance of community linkages differently. For example, I participated in a project that involved conducting a needs assessment survey among the residents of a nearby barangay. Also, when I was a student in senior high, as a student Public Information officer, I witnessed the collaboration of the school with LGUs in security and projects that aimed to provide assistance and build rapport. Another example was when I joined a group of youth as a student who volunteered to clean up a coastal area that was affected by a typhoon. This activity taught us the value of environmental stewardship and strengthened our bond with the local people who appreciated our efforts. Through these experiences, I learned that community linkages are essential for enhancing the quality and relevance of education and fostering a sense of belonging and citizenship among learners and educators.
