module
The Architectural Design I module is structured as an introduction to architectural design. This preliminary design module aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of ‘self’ and the body, construction, and materiality in terms of tectonics. Students will undertake a series of studio-based exercises and assignments that introduce the fundamental methods, principles, and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design. The goal is to enhance the understanding of anthropometrics and design intrapersonal space through creative exercises involving the body movements and experiences of the user.
self reflection
My AD1 experience was a dynamic one, filled with successes, moments of tension, and occasional setbacks. This module delved into the realm of architectural design, immersing me in a rich exploration of materials, spatial arrangements, and the art of manipulating form. While certain aspects, such as crafting models and assembling presentation boards demanded a high level of depth and rigor. Its complex challenges pushed me to think critically and refine my skills with both precision and ingenuity.
Despite the demanding and complex nature of AD1, I couldn't help but be captivated by the intricacies of architectural design. I found great satisfaction in tackling challenges head-on and strengthening my passion for this discipline. Even though it was one of the toughest modules of the first semester, my determination and dedication allowed me to experience remarkable growth and learning, reaffirming my dedication to architectural design.
Instead of simply striving for good grades, my main focus was on wholeheartedly investing myself in the course, ensuring that my first semester was both memorable and fulfilling. Through this journey, I was able to showcase my ability to absorb and apply knowledge, with each obstacle testing my limits and nurturing my resilience.
My gratitude knows no bounds for the lecturers and tutors who have guided and mentored me, leading me to new frontiers in my design abilities. Through their invaluable feedback and support, I have not only honed my skills but also solidified my unwavering commitment to growth and mastery in the ever-changing world of architectural design.
