PRO BONO LEGAL RECOGNITION

Law students that complete at least 100 hours of pro bono legal service receive a certificate and earn the right to wear a white cord signifying their accomplishment at commencement.

how does it work?

Each PBLA clinic chair will record each student's volunteer hours during the semester. The total hours will be made available to volunteers at the end of the semester for students to confirm that the figures are correct. Clinic chairs will be responsible for submitting these hours to the Office of Career and Professional Development at the end of each semester.

what do i need to do?

To qualify for pro bono recognition through PBLA's clinics, the USD law student must:

1. Make at least a semester long commitment to the clinic; and
2. Fulfill his or her obligation by working the hours/schedule committed to, unless a change to the schedule is requested and approved by the clinic chair due to unforeseen circumstance, such as illness or family emergency; or
3. Work as a PBLA clinic chair coordinating and supporting a PBLA clinic.
