This program is designed for students who want to work with very young children and families in early care and education settings outside of public schools. It focuses on the development, care, and education of children from birth to age 5, as well as best practices in working with families and communities.

You will graduate and:
Be prepared to work in infant/toddler centers, Early Head Start programs, home-visiting programs, and other early childhood settings that do not require licensure but alternatively require Gateways to Opportunity credentials.
Qualify for Gateways to Opportunity credentials, including ECE Level 5, Infant Toddler Care Level 5, Family Child Care Level 5, and/or the Illinois Director Credential.
Bring a strong foundation in child development, responsive caregiving, and culturally affirming practices.
Apply knowledge of infant and toddler development to support young children and their families.
Use developmental screenings and assessments to inform early intervention strategies.

These are the General Education courses required for the B.A. in Infant Toddler Studies.Many of these may transfer in from your previous coursework.Your Advisor will review your transcripts, determine what still needs to be completed, and walk you through your options for fulfilling each requirement.
These next courses form the foundation of your Infant-Toddler Studies degree, focusing on topics such as equitable classroom practices and child development. This stage of the program also typically includes the beginning of formal Field Experience, offering structured opportunities to connect coursework with practice.
The final courses in your Infant Toddler Studies program focus on deepening your understanding of early development, responsive caregiving, and family partnerships.This last phase includes a 150-hour Internship in an approved infant-toddler setting, giving you valuable hands-on experience.You are in the home stretch! Once completed, you will be ready to graduate and step confidently into the field of Early Childhood Education.
