Extensive classroom-based experience
Knowledge of how to support young learners across developmental stages
Eligibility for the Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed in Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2)

First up are General Education courses- required for the B.A. in Early Childhood Education.Many of these may transfer in from your previous coursework.Your Advisor will review your transcripts, determine what still needs to be completed, and walk you through your options for fulfilling each requirement.
The next phase of courses form the foundation of your Educator Preparation degree, focusing on topics such as equitable classroom practices and child development.
This stage of the program also typically includes the beginning of formal Field Experience, offering structured opportunities to connect coursework with practice.

The final courses will complete your Educator Preparation degree and include essential requirements like Practicum and Student Teaching.
During this phase, you'll also focus on passing your Content Exam - a major step toward licensure.
You're in the home stretch, and with successful completion, you'll be ready to graduate and move forward as a licensed educator.

A GPA of 3.0 is required to graduate from any licensure program.
You must obtain at least a C or better in all coursework, except Student Teaching- which must be passed with a B or better. Please see your handbook above for more information.

Major Specific - Applied Educational Studies
Students who begin their studies in licensure programs but decide (after completing at least 135 quarter hours) that licensure is no longer their goal can transition into an alternative form of the Applied Educational Studies. These programs apply current credits to AES to finish the degree without pursuing licensure.
