You will gain a solid foundation for teaching in today’s diverse classrooms, math content and pedagogy while gaining hands-on experience in real classrooms.

You will graduate with:
Extensive classroom-based experience
Deep knowledge of mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and instructional strategies
Eligibility for the Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed in Mathematics (Grades 9–12)
*You will also have the option to earn a Middle Grades (5–8) endorsement in Mathematics with an additional exam. See Endorsement Options for more information.

First up are the General Education courses required for the B.A. in Secondary Education Mathematics.Many of these may transfer in from your previous coursework.Your Advisor will review your transcripts, determine what still needs to be completed, and walk you through your options for fulfilling each requirement.
The next courses form the foundation of your Mathematics minor. This is essential to be endorsed for your subject.
This stage of the program also typically includes the beginning of formal Field Experience, offering structured opportunities to connect coursework with practice.

The final courses will complete your Educator Preparation degree and include essential requirements like Practicum and Student Teaching. During this phase, you'll also focus on passing your Content Exam - a major step toward licensure. You're in the home stretch, and with successful completion, you'll be ready to graduate and move forward as a licensed educator.
