Apply for degree finalization when you are nearing the end of your program. Your deadline to apply depends on your term of graduation. Reference the table to the left and your plan.
Please note that if you wish to participate in the annual Commencement Ceremony, you will need to apply by April 15th in order to attend.

- Your Degree Date is the official date that NLU recognizes that you have completed all requirements for your program.
- It will take 2 to 3 weeks after your Degree Date to see your Degree Date on your transcripts. Choose "Hold for Degree" when ordering Transcripts to avoid them being sent out without your Degree Date. You can also check your Unofficial Transcripts in the portal.
- Your Diploma is mailed to you and is not given out at the Commencement Ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed approximately 8 weeks after the Degree Date.
- If you choose to not participate in the Commencement Ceremony and would like to order a Diploma Cover, please submit the Diploma Cover Request Form.
- It's important to continue checking your NLU email after graduation to resolve any outstanding requirements and obligations. You may need to confirm and/or verify items for your licensure and transcripts.
- Diplomas will not be issued if there is still an outstanding financial balance. Go here or speak with Student Finance at 847-947-5350. If you have a financial hold on your account, and have resolved it, please email records@nl.edu, so your diploma can be released to you.
- If you don't complete you degree requirements by the date for which you have applied, you may submit another degree finalization request to change the degree date.

NLU offers a commencement ceremony once a year in early June.
In order to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, students must complete the Graduation Application with the Registrar's Office and indicate that they will participate in the commencement ceremony by the deadline of April 15th.
The Commencement deadline is firm and no late registrants will be allowed to participate.
