What does Commencement/graduation mean to you?

Commencement/graduation means more to me than words could describe. I was a 2020 high school graduate who didn't get a prom, senior trip, or a proper graduation. I worked hard all four years of high school and it felt like I never got that celebration that I was looking forward to. Attending my college graduation will provide that closure that I have been searching for. Graduation also means a lot to me because my parents came to America for a better life for me, my sister, and my brother. I am not only getting this degree for myself but for them and all of the sacrifices they made to get me to this point. I owe so much to my family and without them I wouldn't be where I am today, graduating! 

What has your experience at NLU been like?

My experience at NLU wasn't like the average university student. My first year was completely remote because of the pandemic. Then, it turned into a hybrid schedule and still didn't feel like the traditional university lifestyle. I loved my time at NLU because of my peers and professors. I have never had more understanding professors in my life and I owe a lot of my teaching styles to them and what they taught me. I have never felt more supported at a school than at NLU. 

What are your plans for the future?

My plan for the future is to work at a CPS school as an elementary teacher. I have a minor in special education so I will have my LBS 1 certification for when I'm ready to become a Special Education teacher.
